From Our Collections: "If an Aircraft Part Can Be Installed Improperly – Someone Will Install It That Way"

"Big Fist" Murphy (disregards torque limits)
Offering a reward of better maintenance and safer flying, Chance Vought Corporation issued a series of "wanted" posters for several members of the Murphy family (of Murphy's law fame).
Did you know? "Murphy's Law" was popularized by USAF Col. John Paul Stapp. While running his crash deceleration studies, he made sure the team working on the rocket sled tests always remembered "If anything can go wrong, it will." The name refers to an unfortunate engineer whose strain gauges failed to record the g-forces on a sled run because of incorrect wiring.
"Professor" Murphy (thinks he knows all the answers; doesn't read the maintenance manual)

safety poster "For Safety- Your ‘Need to Know’ Implies Your Obligation to Tell"
This month, archives from around the world have joined in the coloring craze by making images from our collections available as coloring pages. It's a superb opportunity to relax and let the creative juices flow while enjoying historic images from the archives.

We have made a number of images from the Aviation Safety and Security Archives' collections into coloring pages which are available online. You can also check out the many other repositories that have been encouraging people to #ColorOurCollections.

Enjoy!
